(1,034 votes)

3. I developed a greater sense of independence.

(1,027 votes)

(435 votes / 18%)

I became a little more comfortable talking to people.

(337 votes / 14%)

I learned how to maintain a comfortable distance from others.

(298 votes / 12.3%)

My problem-solving skills improved.

(174 votes / 7.2%)

In the survey,

more than 40% of residents answered

that they "became more mindful of how to use their time (43%)”,

"established better daily habits (42.9%),"

and "developed a greater sense of independence (42.6%)."

On the other hand,

only 18% responded that they "haven't noticed any particular changes,"

showing that the vast majority of residents feel positive changes

through their dormitory life.

"I naturally became a morning person,

which gives me plenty of time to prepare for classes and assignments."

"I was given a responsible role in preparing for the dorm festival,

which boosted my self-confidence."

"By seeing people every day,

my hesitance to talk to others gradually faded away."

Many residents pointed to their daily routines,

time management, roles within communal living,

and interactions with peers and staff as triggers for these changes.

It is clear that seeds of growth are scattered not just in special events,

but throughout their everyday lives.

Q. Looking ahead, what are your hopes or goals

for your remaining time in the dormitory?

"I want to become more proactive and outgoing

in interacting with people."

"I want to achieve a high score on the TOEIC test."

"I want to successfully balance my club activities and studies

to achieve good results."

While everyone's goals are unique,

there were many forward-looking comments expressing a strong desire to grow,

such as wanting to build more self-confidence or improve qualifications and language skills.

There were also community-oriented thoughts,

with residents wishing to deepen relationships or take on leadership roles

within the dormitory.

Q. Are there any specific moments or situations

where you felt helped or supported during your dormitory life?

"When I caught a cold,

they brought my meals right to my room."

"When I was feeling down,

my friends stayed up late just to listen to me."

"A friend went back to get something I had forgotten."

Many residents shared experiences of being saved by the support around them

when they were sick or facing sudden emergencies.

Attentive care in daily life and having peers and staff who stand by you

when you are down provide a deep sense of security

that only dormitory life can offer.

Q. Have you had any "aha!" moments, small discoveries, or new insights

through your interactions with other residents and staff?

"I learned about different cultures directly

from international residents."

"It was really helpful to see the study methods of peers

who share the same goals."

"Small differences in daily habits sparked great conversations."

Living with people from diverse backgrounds provides countless opportunities

to experience new values and cultures.

Everyday conversations and small daily occurrences

frequently turn into moments of insightful discovery.

Q. How much of a sense of "connection" or "belonging"

do you feel with other residents,

the dormitory manager, and the dormitory mother?

Strongly feel : 21.3% ★★★★★

Feel : 26.9% ★★★★

Somewhat feel : 30.9% ★★★

When asked on a 5-point scale

(5 = Strongly feel / 1 = Do not feel at all),

the most common response was "3" (30.9%),

representing a moderate sense of connection.

However, responses on the higher end,

"4" (26.9%) and "5" (21.3%),

combined to make up nearly half of the total.

On the other hand,

lower responses of "1" and "2" together amounted to only about 21%.

These results show that

while many residents feel a sense of connection and belonging,

it is not felt with the same intensity by everyone.

Looked at another way,

this suggests that residents are able to interact

while maintaining a comfortable distance without facing excessive interference.

In other words,

an environment that balances connection and privacy

may be fostering relationships that feel just right for many residents.
