"Dormy Inn" is a business hotel
that has branches all over Japan,
mainly in massive cities such as Tokyo,
Osaka, Nagoya, Kyoto, Hakata, Sendai, and Sapporo.
Because it has a strong impression as business hotel,
students may not be familiar with it,
but in fact, students are very welcome!
On the contrary, it has become clear
that it is a strong ally for test-takers.
This time, we interviewed with Mr. Fujii,
Deputy General Manager of the Dormy Inn Business Division
of Kyoritsu Maintenance Co.,
Ltd., which operates the hotel.
“The Dormy Inn” near university bustles
with students taking entrance exams every year!
Some people may think that business hotels
are not familiar with test-takers,
but that's not actually the case.
In fact, even as of today (December 2022),
“Dormy Inn” hotels in Tokyo have been receiving
many reservations from test-takers,
and business hotels close to universities
in particular are almost fully booked.
For example, “Kasuganoyu Dormy Inn Korakuen” in Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo,
is close to the University of Tokyo and
is booked by a considerable number of test-takers every year.
There are both single and twin rooms,
so those taking the test alone often use the single rooms,
and those staying with their parents often use the twin rooms.
Can you tell us what feedback you received
from those who have stayed here for exams?
Since there is a desk which has a plenty of
space students can study in the rooms,
that is a big plus for exam-takers.
I also think that the meal and bath services,
which are a feature of “Dormy Inn”,
are highly valued for their merit to relax and refresh.
From a parent's perspective, they would like
students to concentrate on their studies,
so I think they would not like students to be worried about meals.
We are confident that exam-takers can use
our facilities with peace of mind in that regard.
There are also cases where parents have stayed
at Dormy Inn in the past and
have already understood the quality of the meals.
We have a quality-conscious public bath,
so I think it is the perfect place
for exam candidates to refresh themselves.
You can bathe as many times as you like during your stay,
so if they are tired of your studies,
they can go to the public bath to refresh and then study later,
or if they are too nervous and can't sleep,
they can take a long bath and get a good, deep sleep.
It is actually quite difficult for exam candidates to change their mood,
as it is not good for them to lose concentration too much,
but I think it is just right to relax
and refresh with a meal and a bath service.
Reasons why "Dormy Inn" is recommended for test-takers
As I mentioned in another article,
“Dormy Inn” is a business hotel that was born on the basis
of student and company dormitories.
Most other business hotels have the impression
of being "extraordinary spaces,
"but “Dormy Inn” is based on the idea of being"
a relaxing space that is an extension of daily life.
"This is a big difference.
Therefore, the space places more importance
on practicality than design,
and the lighting is bright and comfortable
rather than dim and atmospheric.
What our staff keeps in mind during exam season
First of all, we clean and maintain the large public bath.
As a sign of good luck,
we try to be extra careful not to slip on the floor.
We also offer desk lamps for free,
though the number is limited.
Another important thing is to respond to problems.
During exam season,it can snow,
and trains are expected to be significantly delayed.
When unexpected problems occur,
the most important thing is "information".
That's why all of our staff brace ourselves at this term,
so that they can obtain information properly
and provide it frequently so that they can provide
as much support as possible in the event of a problem.
Where is the “Dormy Inn” that's popular among test-takers?
I'd say the hotels which simply are
have many users rather than popular,
one is "Kasuga no Yu Dormy Inn Korakuen" in Tokyo.
The other is "Natural Hot Spring Rokka no Yu Dormy Inn Kumamoto"
in Kumamoto City.
This hotel is easily accessible from Kumamoto University,
but the opening day of the hotel coincided
with the entrance exam day,
so it was fully booked from the first day.
There are nearly 300 guest rooms in total,
so I remember it was hectic on the day.
Message to students and their parents
Reservations fill up quickly during exam season,
so it's best to make your reservation early.
And once you've been accepted into the university of you applied,
we hope you will consider Dormy Inn
when you come here to look for housing.
Also, we would be very happy
if you would consider Dormy Gakusei-kaikan.
Dormy Inn is also looking to improve its support measures
for students who take exams,
so we hope you keep Dormy Inn in the back of your mind
when staying at a hotel during exams.
What do you think? We hope this will be helpful
when choosing your housing.
